Listeria Fears Cause Recall Of Vegetables Widely Sold In NYC

NEW YORK – More than 140 vegetable products widely sold in New York City grocery stores have been recalled over fears of potential listeria contamination.

The recall is a response to notification by the Food and Drug Administration and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency of a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes in food produced by California-based Mann Packing Co. The action affects stores nationwide.

The recalled products have a “Best if Enjoyed By” date of Oct. 11, 2019, to Nov. 16, 2019. The packages were sold under a variety of brand names, including Walmart’s Marketside, Mann’s, HEB and Signature Farms.

Public health officials have not yet reported any illness associated with these products.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
