Man Indicted For Murder After Torso Found In Suitcase Last Month: DA

Christian Millet​ allegedly attacked the victim with a homemade ice pick, prosecutors said.

NEW YORK CITY — A 23-year-old man has been indicted on second-degree murder charges after he fatally stabbed his 65-year-old step grandfather, dismembered and wrapped up his body parts in a suitcase before putting them in the East River last month.

Christian Millet, 23, has been charged with second-degree murder and one count of concealment of a human corpse in the killing of Edwin Echevarria.

According to prosecutors, On Feb. 2, Millet attacked Echevarria with a homemade ice pick while he was on the phone. The 23-year-old stomped and kicked Echevarria in the head and then stabbed him at least 13 times in the torso.

Millet, then cut Echevarria into several pieces using a kitchen knife.

Echevarria's headless torso was found inside the suitcase after a passing ship noticed it in the waters on Feb. 5, Patch previously reported.

Christian Millet allegedly committed a shocking and brutal murder, and my thoughts are with Mr. Echevarria’s loved ones,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “I want to thank our prosecutors and the NYPD detectives who worked quickly and diligently to connect the facts and evidence in this case."
