More Than 300 New Year Babies Will Be Born In NYC

Brooklyn will get more than a third of the city's new residents on Jan. 1, UNICEF predicts

NEW YORK — The Times Square ball drop will hail the arrival of more than 300 tiny New Yorkers, a new estimate says. Some 317 babies will be born in New York City on New Year's Day, according to UNICEF.

Brooklyn will get more than a third of them with 113 new kids on the first day of 2019, the seventh-highest number of new births among United States counties, UNICEF says.

Los Angeles County came in first with 351 New Year's babies, Houston's Harris County came in second with 207 new babies and Chicago's Cook County came in third with 184.

Many of those babies could be named Emma, Liam, William and Olivia, which are predicted to be some of the most popular baby names in 2019.

Some 395,072 babies will be born across the globe on New Year's Day, UNICEF reported. The United States will be home to 11,283 of them, the sixth-highest number among countries worldwide, according to UNICEF.
