MTA Subway Delays: Mechanical Problems Plague Wednesday Commute

Mechanical issues plagued the 2, 3, 4, N and R trains Wednesday morning, according to the MTA.

NEW YORK CITY — Door problems, screeching brakes, sick passengers and disabled trains caused delays on several New York City subway lines Wednesday morning, according to the MTA.

Delays hit the 2, 3, 4, 5 lines after 9:20 a.m. when someone hit the brakes on a train at Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn, the B and D lines at about 9:10 a.m. when medics rushed to help someone at 47-50th Streets-Rockefeller Center, and the D and N lines when a train broke down at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station about 9:20 a.m., said the MTA.

The MTA temporarily cut service on 2 and 5 train service between Franklin Avenue and Flatbush Avenue-Brooklyn College.

Some southbound 2 trains were rerouted to the 1 line between Chambers Street and South Ferry, some 2 and 3 trains ran on the 1 line from Chambers Street to South Ferry, and southbound 2 and 3 trains ran express from Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center to Crown Heights-Utica Avenue, according to the MTA.

Southbound 5 trains service ended at Bowling Green, the MTA announced.

Earlier Wednesday, a train with door problems at Park Place in Brooklyn caused delays on southbound 2 and 3 trains about 8:10 a.m., transit officials said.

Another door problem on a 4 train at 149 Street-Grand Concourse Avenue in The Bronx jammed southbound traffic just before 7 a.m., according to the MTA.

And N and R train was temporarily shut down between Queensboro Plaza and 57th St-Seventh Avenue after a disabled work train got stuck in the East River Tunnel from about 5:30 a.m. to 6 a.m.

According to the MTA, service had returned to normal on the 4, N and R lines before rush hour began.
