MTA Subway Delays: Trains Skip Grand Central As Cops Investigate

A reported suspicious package had trains skipping Grand Central Thursday morning.

NEW YORK CITY — A reported suspicious package at Grand Central Station has been deemed safe, but mangled commutes when trains began skipped the transit hub, according to the NYPD and MTA.

Police investigated the suspicious package at the 42nd Street station about 8:30 a.m. as 4, 5, and 6 trains whizzed by without stopping, officials said.

Northbound 5 trains, and northbound 2 trains, also faced delays because of police and emergency responders attending to a passenger at 180th in Manhattan, according to the MTA.

Southbound 6 trains ran express from Grand Central or 14th Street-Union Square to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall when a train broke down at Bleecker Street about 8:50 a.m.

Southbound E and F trains temporarily ran local from Forest Hills-71st Avenue to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue after medics helped someone at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station.

Southbound J trains went express from Broadway Junction to Myrtle Avenue as transit workers removed a train with door problems at Chauncey Street at about 8 a.m., the MTA tweeted.

Manhattan-bound 4 and 5 trains were delayed by a train with mechanical problems at 138th Street-Grand Concourse in The Bronx, according to the MTA.

And 34th Street-bound 7 express trains ran on the local track from 74th Street-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza as the MTA dealt with a broken train at 61st Street-Woodside.
