NYC Restaurants: George Santos' Cameo Pizza Party + Openings Edition
What do George Santos, pizza and jam have in common? Hint: they're all on New York City's food news menu this week.

NEW YORK CITY — Disgraced former Rep. George Santos and current-slash-Beetlejuice lovebird Rep. Lauren Boebert made a cameo in an Upper East Side Restaurant.
That's not the setup for a joke — it really happened this past week.
New York City's food news last week was a mix of new restaurants, sweet jam fundraisers and a cameo by current Cameo star George Santos.

George Santos is a lot of things: serial liar, accused fraudster, sixth congressional representative in history to be expelled, newly minted video star selling clips for $500 a pop.
But reportedly he's not a dine-and-dasher.
Or at least he wasn't when he was spotted at a late-night party at the Beach Café on Second Avenue with two of his few remaining friends in Congress, Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, reports Page Six.
The group had arrived to Beach Café after the kitchen closed, so Santos ordered from a nearby pizza place.
"He did pick up the check and bought pizza for everyone in the joint!” the source told the tabloid gossip page.
Santos, for whatever his word is worth, told Page Six he wasn't that generous.
"I want the record to reflect that I did not buy pizza for 35, and that I did not pick up anybody’s bar tab," Santos told Page Six. "I was there with four friends."
Santos' disputed generosity wasn't the only new thing on New York City's plate this week.
A downtown favorite, La Panineria, signed off on a new location on the Upper East Side.
San Sabino, a new Italian place from the owners of Don Angie, was set to open in the West Village.
Likewise, Bar Nena opened in the Village below popular vegan spot Jajaja and became the city's first Mexican fermented beverage bar, according to Secret NYC.
A new vegetarian spot, Che, opened in Bed-Stuy serving small plates, natural wine, cocktails and coffee sourced from ethical roasters.
And students from Manhattan Country School on the Upper West Side got themselves in quite a jam — in a good way.
They sold different types of jams — Maiya’s Mama’s Marmalade and Triple Berry Thyme to Red Pepper Chili and Pineapple Ginger — as part of a school fundraiser.

But fortunes changed for some restaurants, this being New York.
Williamsburg Italian joint Fabbrica closed last week "after a glorious 10-year run" and unexpected lease troubles, its owners announced on social media.
And three restaurants got shut down by health inspectors.
