NEW YORK CITY — New York City yet again — and perhaps surprisingly — lost the rat race for "rattiest" city, according to a new ranking.

The Big Apple scurried down to third in Orkin pest control's 2023 ranking of "Top 50 Rattiest Cities."

Los Angeles moved up to usurp New York's second-place ranking, the list found.

And the Second City topped both.

"Chicago continues its first-place run in the rat race, topping Orkin’s Top 50 Rattiest Cities List for the ninth year in a row," the ranking states.

New York City's slightly lower ranking comes amid a concerted push by avowed rat hater Mayor Eric Adams' to solve the city's long-standing rodent problem.

Adams' main anti-rat strategy has been a wholesale change of city garbage rules, including to soon require nearly all residential trash to go in bins.

Officials have contended the trash changes have led to a drop in rat complaints. Data from 311 shows rat complaints from the first six months this year are down roughly 6 percent compared to the same period last year.
