  1. Mayor Adams is suing Moshe Piller, considered to be the city's "worst landlord," with his fifteen buildings across Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Manhattan collectively receiving 1,900 open violations, ranging from no hot water to swarms of rats to lead paint. Adams, in a statement, declared the time of tenant harassment over. (New York City Patch)
  2. Funding for New York City's 40 settlement houses could be on the chopping block in the state's budget. Settlement houses are community organizations providing anything from education to food, to eviction prevention services. (New York City Patch)
  3. Workers from the NYC area's three largest airports joined a national day of protest for higher wages and better health benefits. The workers at JFK, Laguardia, and Newark have had some meaningful wins over the past few years, securing a $19 minimum wage, but that isn't stopping them from protesting in solidarity with workers from other cities. (Patch)
  4. A new East Harlem Assemblyman who was first elected in January aims to turn parts of the neighborhood known as "El Barrio" into a "Cultural District," a designation that doesn't currently exist, citing its rich Latino, Black, Asian, and Italian heritage. (New York City Patch)
  5. A straphanger on an uptown Manhattan Subway platform was beaten by a fellow passenger who used homophobic slurs against him, in violent video footage released by police. The incident is being investigated by the NYPD's hate crime task force. (New York City Patch)
