- Verizon reported thousands of phone outages on Friday, with New York City – Brooklyn and Queens in particular – being the most effected. 87% of outages affected mobile devices. (New York City Patch)
- Mayor Adams removed vaccine mandates from K-12 schools, as well as businesses that previously used the "key to the city" to check vaccine status. Pre-K and daycare facilities will still have a mask mandate, and social distancing in schools still applies, for the moment. On Friday the city's 7-day positivity rate was 1.8%. (New York City Patch)
- The city released a list of the 250 "most distressed" buildings in the five boroughs, which have a collective total of 40,000 open code violations. The majority of buildings are in Brooklyn, followed by The Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. (New York City Patch)
- Transportation Alternatives released a report Friday detailing a "traffic violence crisis." Traffic incidents involving drivers running red lights have risen 50% in the past year, bringing with them a spike in traffic-related deaths. The advocacy group is calling for more traffic cameras to be installed; currently they are only allowed within school zones. (New York City Patch)
- A firefighter who rushed to save lives at the World Trade Center on 9/11 has passed away from 9/11-related cancer 20 years later, according to the FDNY. Frederick "Freddy" Gallagher served with the department for 26 years, before retiring in 2012. (New York City Patch)
