NYC Weather Forecast: Snow Timeline For The Weekend

Don't put your snow boots away just yet.

NEW YORK, NY — Winter Storm Stella may have passed, but New York City is not quite done with snow this year, forecasters are saying.

The National Weather Service — which, we remind you, knew Stella wouldn't live up to the hype but declined to change its forecasts — says there's a good chance that the city will get some snow on Saturday, possibly up to 5 inches of it, even as chunky, gray mounds remain in place on NYC's streets and sidewalks.

While forecasters were reluctant to lower their snow estimates earlier this week, they aren't doing that this weekend.

As of Saturday morning, the government weather service had decreased its most likely snow estimates to just an inch or two, with five being the high end. The dreaded "wintry mix" will fall during the afternoon Saturday and turn fully to snow overnight. The sun will show up Sunday and continue into the start of next week.

The city is still taking the necessary precautions.

In preparation, the Department of Sanitation issued a "snow alert" for Saturday at 3 a.m. which allows it to, yet again, ready snow plows and salt trucks to fight the snow accumulation.

"We’re expecting snow Saturday that could cause slippery road conditions," NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito said in a press release. "New Yorkers are asked to allow for extra travel time and exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking."

Here's what the most likely snow map looked like as of Saturday morning:
