NYC Weather: Hazardous Outlook Issued As 60Mph Winds Approach

NEW YORK CITY — Strong winds that could blow down trees and power lines will hit New York City from noon Friday, the National Weather Service warned.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued as the storm approached, with gusts expected to top 60 mph.

"Widespread power outages are expected," the NWS said. "Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches.

"If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive."

The advice will be in effect until 7 p.m.

Rain likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 43 by 5pm. Windy, with a south wind 17 to 22 mph becoming west 24 to 29 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tonight
Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph.

Saturday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable.

Sunday
A slight chance of snow showers before 9am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 9am and noon, then a slight chance of rain showers after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. East wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
