NYC Weather: Snow Looms Over Frigid Weekend

Flakes could fall early Sunday morning amid low temperatures in the 20s.

NEW YORK — Watch out for slippery sidewalks — light snow could blanket New York City this weekend amid bitterly cold temperatures, the National Weather Service says.

There's a 30 percent chance of flakes hitting Central Park starting Saturday night, mostly in the early morning hours of Sunday, according to the weather service. Some 0.2 inches of snow could accumulate by 7 a.m. Sunday, the forecast shows.

The dusting is expected as other parts of the Atlantic coast brace for as much as a foot of snow over the weekend, according to AccuWeather. The website predicts a "light accumulation" of snow in New York City.

Unusually cold temperatures will accompany the possible flakes, the weather service says. The mercury isn't expected to get out of the low 30s during the day and will fall into the low 20s on Friday and Sunday nights, according to the forecast.

Friday will be sunny and windy with gusts as strong as 29 MPH before clouds roll in over the weekend, the weather service says.
