NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Dec. 21-22

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Dec. 20, through early Monday morning, Dec. 23 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 18 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

• 1 Service between Rector St and South Ferry in Manhattan is replaced by free shuttle buses
  • 1 trains run between 242 St and Rector St.
  • Buses run between Chambers St and South Ferry.

3 train:

• 3 Service between Utica Av and New Lots Av in Brooklyn is replaced by free shuttle buses
  • 3 trains run between 148 St and Utica Av.
  • Transfer between 3 trains and SB buses at Utica Av.

4 train:

• 4, 5 Uptown platform at 138 St-Grand Concourse in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 4, 5 Uptown trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse.
• 4 Woodlawn-bound trains skip 183 St, Fordham Rd, Kingsbridge Rd and Bedford Pk Blvd in the Bronx
  • For service to these stations, take the 4 to Mosholu Pkwy and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 4.
  • For service from these stations, take the 4 to Burnside Av and transfer to a Woodlawn-bound 4.
• 4 Trains run every 16 minutes between Burnside Av and Woodlawn in the Bronx
  • Some uptown 4 trains skip 170 St, Mt Eden Av and 176 St

5 train:

• 5 Manhattan-bound platform at Gun Hill Rd in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 5 Manhattan-bound trains skip Gun Hill Rd.
• 4, 5 Uptown platform at 138 St-Grand Concourse in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 4,5 Uptown trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse.

6 train:

• 6 Uptown platform at Longwood Av in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 6 Uptown trains skip Longwood Av.
• 6 Pelham Bay Park-bound trains run express from 3 Av-138 St to Parkchester in the Bronx
  • Trains stop at Hunts Point Av.
  • For service to Brook Av, Cypress Av, E 143 St, E 149 St and Longwood Av, take the 6 to Hunts Point Av and transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound 6.
  • For service to Whitlock Av, Elder Av, Morrison Av-Soundview and St Lawrence Av, take the 6 to Parkchester and transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound 6.
  • For service from these stations, take the 6 to Hunts Point Av or 3 Av-138 St and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound 6.

7 train:

• 7 Hunters Point Av and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av in Queens - board/exit all trains at the Flushing-bound platform

A train:

• A 181 St Station information
  • The ENTRANCE/EXIT elevators to the A train on Fort Washington Av between W 183 St and W 185 St are temporarily closed as we install three replacement elevators
  • The Overlook Terrace passageway will remain open, but free access to/from Fort Washington Av will not be available during this time.
• A Uptown trains skip Spring St, 23 St and 50 St in Manhattan
  • For service to Spring St and 23 St, take the A to W 4 St or 34 St-Penn Station and transfer to a downtown A local or E.
  • For service to 50 St, transfer to the E at 42 St/Port Authority.
  • For service from these stations, take the A or E to 42 St/Port Authority, 14 St or Canal St and transfer to an uptown A.
• A Service between Euclid Av, Brooklyn and Lefferts Blvd, Queens is replaced by free shuttle buses
  • A trains run in two sections:
  • Between 207 St and Euclid Av
  • Between Rockaway Blvd and Mott Av

C train:

• C Uptown trains skip Spring St, 23 St and 50 St in Manhattan
  • For service to Spring St and 23 St, take the C to W 4 or 34 St-Penn Station and transfer to a downtown C or E.
  • For service to 50 St, transfer to the E at 42 St/Port Authority.
  • For service from these stations, take the C or E to 42 St/Port Authority, 14 St or Canal St and transfer to an uptown C.

D train:

• D Norwood-bound trains skip 170 St, 174-175 Sts and 182-183 Sts in the Bronx
• For service to these stations, take the D to Tremont Av or Fordham Rd and transfer to a Coney Island-bound D.
• For service from these stations, take the D to Tremont Av or 167 St and transfer to a Norwood-bound D.
• D Norwood-bound trains skip Bay 50 St, 25, 20, 18 Avs, 79, 71, 55, 50 Sts and Fort Hamilton Pkwy in Brooklyn
• For service to these stations, take the D to Bay Pkwy, 62 St or 9 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-bound D.
• For service from these stations, take the D to 62 St, Bay Pkwy or Stillwell Av and transfer to a Norwood-bound D.
• D Norwood-bound trains stop at 25 St, Prospect Av, 4 Av-9 St, Union St and DeKalb Av in Brooklyn

E train:

• E Uptown trains skip Spring St and 23 St in Manhattan
  • For service to these stations, take the E to W 4 St or 34 St-Penn Station and transfer to a downtown A local, C or E.
  • For service from these stations, take the A C or E to 14 St or Canal St and transfer to an uptown E.
• E Trains run local in both directions in Queens
  • Trains stop at 36 St, Steinway St, 46 St, Northern Blvd, 65 St, Roosevelt Av, Elmhurst Av, Grand Av, Woodhaven Blvd, 63 Dr and 67 Av.

F train:

• F Trains run local in both directions between 21 St-Queensbridge and 71 Av in Queens
  • Trains stop at 36 St, Steinway St, 46 St, Northern Blvd, 65 St, Roosevelt Av, Elmhurst Av, Grand Av, Woodhaven Blvd, 63 Dr and 67 Av.

J train:

• J Service between Chambers St and Broad St in Manhattan is replaced by the 4 5 at nearby stations
  • Use nearby 4, 5 stations at Fulton St, Wall St (at Broadway) and Bowling Green instead.
  • Transfer between J and 4 5 trains at Brooklyn Bridge-Chambers St.

L train:

• L trains run every 20 minutes between Rockaway Pkwy, Brooklyn and 8 Av, Manhattan
  • L trains run every 10 minutes between Rockaway Pkwy and Lorimer St.
  • M service runs between Manhattan and Brooklyn, connecting with the L at 6 Av (14 St) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs, during the following hours: 10 PM Fri to 1:30 AM Sat • 6 AM Sat to 1:30 AM Sun • 6 AM Sun to 1:30 AM Mon
  • Additional G service runs days and evenings, connecting with the L at Metropolitan Av (Lorimer St), 7 E at Court Sq.
• In Manhattan, use the M14A/D SBS buses serving all L stops along 14 St; the M14A SBS connects with the F J M at Delancey St-Essex St.
• In Manhattan, use the M14A/D SBS buses serving all L stops along 14 St; the M14A SBS connects with the F J M at Delancey St-Essex St.
• The B62, B24 and Q54 buses provide a free transfer, when using MetroCard, and connect customers in Williamsburgto/from the subway at Marcy Av J M, Lorimer St G L and Bedford Av L.
• Free MetroCard transfers are available between the Broadway G, Hewes St and Lorimer St J M stations and between the Livonia Av L and Junius St 3 stations.
• At Broadway Junction, consider the J train for service to/from Manhattan.
• L 3 Av and 1 Av in Manhattan - board/exit all trains at the 8 Av-bound platform

M train:

• M Service is extended to the 96 St Q Station in Manhattan
  • Special weekend M service runs, days and evenings, between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St and via the Q to/from 96 St.
• M Service is extended to the 96 St Q Station in Manhattan
  • Special M service runs between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St and via the Q to/from 96 St.

N train:

• N Trains are not running between 86 St, Brooklyn and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
• N trains run between Ditmars Blvd, Queens and 86 St, Brooklyn, the last stop. (Service change map)
• For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and the Coney Island-Stillwell Av Station, take the D F or Q.
• In Manhattan, transfer between the N and D F Q trains at 34 St-Herald Sq
• In Brooklyn, transfer between the N and D trains at 36 St (across the platform) or New Utrecht Av/62 St
• We're providing a free out-of-system transfer between the 86 St N station and the F at Avenue X. It's about a 5 minute walk. Or, you can take the B1 or B4 bus which is also a free transfer, when using a MetroCard.
• N ,W Service restored at Astoria Blvd in Queens
• N, W trains are stopping at Astoria Blvd in both directions.
• N Brooklyn-bound trains run via the R from Canal St, Manhattan to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, Brooklyn
• N Astoria-bound trains skip 53 St, 45 St, 25 St, Prospect Av, 4 Av-9 St and Union St in Brooklyn
• Trains stop at 36 St.
• For service to 53 St and 45 St, take the N to 36 St and transfer to an 86 St-bound N local or Bay Ridge-bound R.
• For service from these stations, take the N or R to 59 St and transfer to an Astoria-bound N.
• For 25 St, Prospect Av, 4 Av-9 St and Union St, take the D via transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
• N Trains run approximately every 12 minutes, days and evenings
  • N service runs on a modified schedule because downtown N Q and R trains are sharing a track from Canal St, Manhattan to DeKalb Av, Brooklyn.

Q train:

• Q Brooklyn-bound trains run via the R from Canal St, Manhattan to DeKalb Av, Brooklyn
• Trains stop at City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, Whitehall St, Court St and Jay St-MetroTech.
• Q Service between Brighton Beach and Stillwell Av is replaced by free shuttle buses
• Q trains run between 96 St and Brighton Beach.
• Buses run between Brighton Beach and Stillwell Av, stopping at Ocean Pkwy and West 8 St.
• Q Trains run approximately every 10 minutes, days and evenings
  • Q service runs on a modified schedule because downtown N Q and R trains are sharing a track from Canal St, Manhattan to DeKalb Av, Brooklyn.

R train:

• R Manhattan-bound trains skip 53 St, 45 St, 25 St, Prospect Av, 4 Av-9 St and Union St in Brooklyn
  • Trains stop at 36 St.
  • For service to 53 St and 45 St, take the R to 36 St and transfer to an 86 St-bound N local or Bay Ridge-bound R.
  • For service from these stations, take the N or R to 59 St and transfer to a Manhattan-bound R.
  • For 25 St, Prospect Av, 4 Av-9 St and Union St, take the D via transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

W train:

• N, W Service restored at Astoria Blvd in Queens
  • N, W trains are stopping at Astoria Blvd in both directions.
