NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Jan. 4-5

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Jan. 3, through early Monday morning, Jan. 6 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 14 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

3 train:

• 3 Trains replace the 4 in Brooklyn
  • 3 trains run to New Lots Av all weekend.

4 train:

• 4, 5 Uptown platform at 138 St-Grand Concourse in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 4, 5 Uptown trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse.
• 4 Service between Bowling Green, Manhattan and Utica Av/New Lots Av, Brooklyn is replaced by 2 and 3 trains
  
  • 4 trains run between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.
  • 3 trains run between 148 St and New Lots Av all weekend.

5 train:

• 5 Manhattan-bound platform at Gun Hill Rd in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 5 Manhattan-bound trains skip Gun Hill Rd.
• 4, 5 Uptown platform at 138 St-Grand Concourse in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  
  • 4, 5 Uptown trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse.

6 train:

• 6 Uptown platform at Longwood Av in the Bronx is temporarily closed
  • 6 Uptown trains skip Longwood Av.

7 train:

• 7 Service between Queensboro Plaza, Queens and 34 St-Hudson Yards, Manhattan is replaced by E F N Q R S trains and free shuttle buses
  • 7 trains run in Queens between Main St and Queensboro Plaza.
  • Buses run in two sections:
    
    • In Queens between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • In Manhattan between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  • Q trains are rerouted to/from Astoria-Ditmars Blvd N, providing additional service between Queens and Manhattan.
  • S 42 Street Shuttle will run overnight.

A train:

• A 181 St Station information
  • The ENTRANCE/EXIT elevators to the A train on Fort Washington Av between W 183 St and W 185 St are temporarily closed as we install three replacement elevators.
  • The Overlook Terrace passageway will remain open, but free access to/from Fort Washington Av will not be available during this time.
• A Uptown trains skip Spring St, 23 St and 50 St in Manhattan
  
  • For service to Spring St, take the A to W 4 St and transfer to a downtown A local, E or F*.
  • For service to 23 St, take the A to 34 St-Penn Station and transfer to a downtown A local or E.
  • For service to 50 St, transfer to the E at 42 St/Port Authority.
  • For service from Spring St, take the A E or F to Canal St and transfer to an uptown A.
  • For service from 23 St and 50 St, take the A or E to 42 St/Port Authority or 14 St and transfer to an uptown A.
• A Ozone Park/Far Rockaway-bound trains skip Liberty Av, Van Siclen Av and Shepherd Av in Brooklyn
  
  • For service to these stations, take the A to Euclid Av and transfer to an Inwood-bound A local.
  • For service from these stations, take the A to Broadway Junction and transfer to an Ozone Park/Far Rockaway-bound A.

C train:

• C Uptown trains skip Spring St, 23 St and 50 St in Manhattan
  • For service to Spring St, take the C to W 4 St and transfer to a downtown C E or F*.
  • For service to 23 St, take the C to 34 St-Penn Station and transfer to a downtown C or E.
  • For service to 50 St, transfer to the E at 42 St/Port Authority.
  • For service from Spring St, take the C E or F to Canal St and transfer to an uptown C.
  • For service from 23 St and 50 St, take the C or E to 42 St/Port Authority or 14 St and transfer to an uptown C.
• C Euclid Av-bound trains skip Liberty Av, Van Siclen Av and Shepherd Av in Brooklyn
  
  • For service to these stations, take the C to Euclid Av and transfer to a 168 St-bound C.
  • For service from these stations, take the C to Broadway Junction and transfer to a Euclid Av-bound C.

E train:

• E Uptown trains skip Spring St and 23 St in Manhattan
  • For service to Spring St, take the E to W 4 St and transfer to a downtown A local, C E or F*.
  • For service to 23 St, take the E to 34 St-Penn Station and transfer to a downtown A local, C or E.
  • For service from Spring St, take the A C E or F to Canal St and transfer to an uptown E.
  • For service from 23 St, take the A C or E to 14 St and transfer to an uptown E.
• E Trains stop in both directions at 36 St, Steinway St, 46 St, Northern Blvd and 65 St in Queens

F train:

• F Coney Island-bound trains run via the A from W 4 St, Manhattan to Jay St-MetroTech, Brooklyn
  • No Coney Island-bound F service at B'way-Lafayette St, 2 Av, Delancey St, East Broadway and York St.
• F Jamaica-bound trains run via the E after 47-50 Sts, Manhattan to Roosevelt Av, Queens
  
  • No Jamaica-bound F service at 57 St, Lexington Av/63 St, Roosevelt Island and 21 St-Queensbridge.
• F Trains stop in both directions at 65 St, Northern Blvd, 46 St, Steinway St and 36 St in Queens

L train:

• L trains run every 20 minutes between Rockaway Pkwy, Brooklyn and 8 Av, Manhattan
• L trains run every 10 minutes between Rockaway Pkwy and Lorimer St.
• M service runs between Manhattan and Brooklyn, connecting with the L at 6 Av (14 St) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs, during the following hours: 10 PM Fri to 1:30 AM Sat • 6 AM Sat to 1:30 AM Sun • 6 AM Sun to 1:30 AM Mon
• Additional G service runs days and evenings, connecting with the L at Metropolitan Av (Lorimer St), 7 E at Court Sq.
• In Manhattan, use the M14A/D SBS buses serving all L stops along 14 St; the M14A SBS connects with the F J M at Delancey St-Essex St.
• In Manhattan, use the M14A/D SBS buses serving all L stops along 14 St; the M14A SBS connects with the F J M at Delancey St-Essex St.
• The B62, B24 and Q54 buses provide a free transfer, when using MetroCard, and connect customers in Williamsburgto/from the subway at Marcy Av J M, Lorimer St G L and Bedford Av L.
• Free MetroCard transfers are available between the Broadway G, Hewes St and Lorimer St J M stations and between the Livonia Av L and Junius St 3 stations.
• At Broadway Junction, consider the J train for service to/from Manhattan.
• L 3 Av and 1 Av in Manhattan - board/exit all trains at the 8 Av-bound platform

M train:

• M trains run between Metropolitan Av, Queens and 96 St/2 Av, Manhattan
  • Special M service runs all weekend between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St and via the Q to/from 96 St.

N train:

• N Trains are not running between 86 St, Brooklyn and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  • N trains run between Ditmars Blvd, Queens and 86 St, Brooklyn, the last stop. (Service change map)
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and the Coney Island-Stillwell Av Station, take the D F or Q.
  • In Manhattan, transfer between the N and D F Q trains at 34 St-Herald Sq
  • In Brooklyn, transfer between the N and D trains at 36 St (across the platform) or New Utrecht Av/62 St
  • We're providing a free out-of-system transfer between the 86 St N station and the F at Avenue X. It's about a 5 minute walk. Or, you can take the B1 or B4 bus which is also a free transfer, when using a MetroCard.

Q train:

• Q Service at Lexington Av/63 St, 72 St, 86 St and 96 St is replaced by the M
  • Q trains run between Stillwell Av and 57 St-7 Av and via the N to/from Ditmars Blvd.
  • M trains run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St and via the Q to/from 96 St.
• Q Trains run approximately every 10 minutes, days and evenings
  
  • Q service runs on a modified schedule because the N and Q trains are sharing a track at Ditmars Blvd in Queens.

S train:

• S 42 Street Shuttle service runs overnight
