- Plainclothes NYPD officers are coming to New York City's streets in the next week or two, according to Mayor Adams, who spoke about the plans in a Fox5 interview on Monday. Adams said the department has spent the past weeks carefully training the controversial officers, adding his commitment to getting it done "right." (Patch)
- A 'subvariant' of Omicron, 30% more infectious than the original, is slowly but surely taking hold in New York City. Health experts are mixed on whether or not it will lead to another surge in cases, just as the city is lifting many restrictions, or if it will stay in the background. (Gothamist)
- Anti-Asian hate crimes are at an all-time high in New York City. In the past month alone, anti-Asian incidents rose 125%, according to NYPD data. Advocates, like Jo-Ann Yoo, executive director for the Asian American Federation, say they are at a "breaking point" now, and believe the reported cases are an understatement. (New York City Patch)
