Revel Ditches Moped Service In NYC
The rideshare company will end its popular moped service Nov. 18 to focus fully on electric cars.
NEW YORK CITY — Revel's blue electric mopeds soon will stop zipping across New York City's streets.
The rideshare company will stop its moped service Nov. 18 in the Big Apple and San Francisco to focus on its electric vehicle and public fast charging businesses, a company representative confirmed to Patch.
About 67 staffers in the company's moped side will be laid off, TechCrunch first reported.

"Mopeds are a huge part of Revel's story and they've offered such a fun way to get around the city," a company statement widely circulated on X reads. "We are grateful to all of you who have been on this journey with us."
Revel mopeds were a popular, if sometimes controversial feature on New York City's streets in recent years.

The company expanded rapidly since its founding in Brooklyn during 2018, albeit with a brief, safety-related shutdown two years later after high-profile fatal crashes involving its mopeds.
By 2021, Revel had expanded into taxis with an all-Tesla fleet featuring all-employee drivers.
