  1. A new summer-long festival will take over New York City's streets starting on Memorial Day weekend, bringing together more than 200 organizations, with events ranging from dances, opera, to LGBT pride. (New York City Patch)
  2. Governor Kathy Hochul would like to roll back some of New York State's bail reform laws–but a new study from NYC Comptroller Brad Lander finds "no evidence" that said reforms, which allow for fewer people to be detained pre-trail, led to any increase in violent crime, given that 99% of defendants were not being rearrested on violent felony charges. 3. A new initiative by the NYPD will target minor 'quality-of-life' offenses, like selling marijuana or public urination, according to police officials. This approach has received criticism from some, who see it as a return to the practices of 'broken windows' policing from the 90s. (New York City Patch)
  4. An investor just bought up 10 apartment buildings in Upper Manhattan for under $100 million, which in total are comprised of over 400 units. The investor, Avi Dishi, recently spent close to $10 million on six buildings in Harlem. (New York City Patch)
  5. New York City's cherry blossoms are in full bloom across the city, especially in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. They don't last long, so get to your nearest park to enjoy them.
