Toastgate: Mayor's Park Slope Bagel Story Is Full Of Holes
Mayor Bill de Blasio claimed to love toasted bagels at a Park Slope bagel store that does. Not. Toast.
NEW YORK CITY — There's a gaping hole in the middle of Mayor Bill de Blasio's bagel story. And it's toasted.
Hizzoner celebrated National Bagel Day Wednesday by sharing his order of choice — a toasted whole wheat with extra cream cheese from the Bagel Hole in Park Slope — on Twitter.
The problem, as de Blasio's followers responded to the since-deleted tweet, is that Bagel Hole does not toast.

"If I were to tell you I was Mayor of New York City," Patch asked a Bagel Hole worker, "would you toast my bagel then?"
"No," the worker replied. "We don't toast at all."

The tweet was quickly deleted and replaced by this toast-free Tweet:
New York City has the best bagels in the world. But our BEST bagel? Bagel Hole in Park Slope. No contest. Don't get there as much as I used to, but it was our go-to when the kids needed a bite before Little League. Whole wheat. Extra cream cheese.#NationalBagelDay https://t.co/W2VS6mq3Jx

De Blasio later admitted, "I must have a hole in my memory," but the toastgate debate raged on:
What happened to toasted? You really deleted that tweet???

Toasted bagels are better than raw bagels and the fact that so many self-professed bagel snobs argue the contrary is proof that most food snob opinions are silly

-You originally tweeted you like it toasted. Puh-lease -A whole wheat bagel? Stop. -Give me a break with Park Slope bagels. I have a few bagel shops in #Queens that would have something to say about that. -This tweet coincides nicely with your eating pizza with a fork mess pic.twitter.com/jbOE7mET48

City Hall spokesperson Julia Arredondo confirmed the Mayor's take on Toastgate:
“It’s hard to remember Everything and sometimes we all Poppy off on social media," Arredondo stated. "At the end of the day, nobody has a Lox on this debate, but we can say for a fact that Bagel Hole is most definitely the Toast of New York City.”
