Vaping -Linked Lung Disease Sickens 10 In NYC

State health chiefs are urging people not to use e-cigarettes.

NEW YORK – Vaping related lung disease has sickened 10 people in New York City amid a national outbreak of illness attributed to using e-cigarettes.

The New York State Department of Health said the ten were among 38 people had been reported by doctors of suffering from severe pulmonary illness. They were aged between 15 years and 46 years old and had all used cannabis-containing vape products before becoming ill.

Vape users are being warned to call health providers immediately if they suffer shortness of breath, coughing, chest pain, fever, nausea or vomiting.

Across the country, latest Centers for Disease Control figures show 450 people sickened by e- cigarettes with five deaths. What is actually causing the sickness is unknown.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warned people not to use the products.

"There is an investigation ongoing," he said. "Nobody knows exactly what it is. There is some suggestion that is linked to Vitamin E, et cetera.

"Our health guidance is no one should be using vaping products, period, until we know what it is."
