- A man from Broad Channel, Queens, Ralph Joseph Celentano III, was arrested on Wednesday for pushing cops off a ledge during the January 6 capitol insurrection in 2021, according to authorities. Investigators identified Celentano partially thanks to images of him at a sea turtle fundraiser a few years back. (New York City Patch)
- A lawsuit contends that a man detained at Rikers was stabbed 20 times over the course of last summer, after being placed by corrections officers in a jail cell with gang rivals. The lawsuit covers the period of time when many politicians began dubbing Rikers to be a "humanitarian crisis." (New York City Patch)
- Animal Care Centers of New York, NYC's only network of open-door animal shelters, announced that it's limiting its hours amid a nationwide veterinarian shortage that's left over 65 open positions across the city. Veterinary work is grueling–around 50% of vet techs leave the profession after five years according to a study–but it's also rewarding, a representative of the ACC said. (Patch)
- An outdoor dining shed that cost $400,000 to construct went up in flames in Midtown Wednesday, much to upscale Quality Bistro's dismay. A shed across the street, separated by a single lane of traffic, wasn't spared either. (New York City Patch)
- After a devastating fire in The Bronx killed 17 people and displaced over 200, a city-run fund raised over $2 million, with Mayor Eric Adams pledging that 100% of it would go directly to the families in need. Now, two months later, only 10% of the funds have been distributed, and some of the families say they are struggling to rebuild their lives. (Documented)
