🌱 Winter Storm Hits NYC + City Mourns Fallen NYPD Officer

Here are the top stories in New York City today:

  1. The funeral of 22 year old NYPD Officer Jason Rivera, who was shot dead last Friday, drew mourners from across the country, with police from as far as California coming to pay their respects. The service at St. Patrick's Cathedral was attended by Mayor Eric Adams. (New York City Patch)
  2. New York has been under a State of Emergency since 8 p.m., with Governor Hochul urging New Yorkers to "just stay home" while a major winter storm is set to dump 10 inches of snow on New York City, and 16 on parts of Long Island. Blizzard conditions are possible. (New York City Patch)
  3. The storm has also lead to the preemptive cancellation of at least 800 flights out of New York City. (New York City Patch)
  4. A report finds the average rents of New Yorkers living with roommates has fallen dramatically from pre-pandemic 2019 levels, especially in some of the city's wealthiest neighborhoods. The biggest declines were in Long Island City and the West Village. (AMNY)
  5. Eric Adams' brother will be allowed to become the head of mayoral security, the city's conflict of interest board has ruled. He will be taking a sharp pay cut though, earning only $1 per year, instead of $200,000. (New York City Patch)
  6. A crazed fan crashed their car into Taylor Swift's Tribeca apartment, in an apparent (and ultimately unsuccessful) attempt to try to meet the celebrity pop star. (New York City Patch)
