2 Kids In Tesla When Impaired Driver Struck SUV With 6 Kids Inside On I-87 Over Holiday Weekend: Police

After the Rockland County crash, the Orange County man refused to give a blood sample to determine blood alcohol levels, according to NYSP.​

SLOATSBURG, NY — An Orange County man was arrested in Rockland County over the holiday weekend, accused of potentially putting the lives of children in danger because of a bad decision, according to state police.

New York State Police say that on Friday, around 2:21 a.m., troopers from Tarrytown responded to I-87 north, in the village of Sloatsburg, after receiving a report of a two-vehicle accident with injuries.

An investigation found that 45-year-old Junior Liverpool, of Central Valley, was driving a 2017 Tesla, when he struck a 2017 Toyota SUV that had been parked on the right shoulder due to mechanical problems, police said.

While speaking with Liverpool, the troopers noticed signs of impairment, according to NYSP. A standardized field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test both indicated alcohol impairment, NYSP said.

Troopers say two children under the age of 16 were in the Tesla at the time.

Liverpool was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with his two children to be further evaluated for injuries. Police say Liverpool refused to give a blood sample to determine his blood alcohol content.

He was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child.

Liverpool was released to a sober third party and is due in Ramapo Town Court on November 5.

The driver of the Toyota that was struck was taken to Westchester Medical Center along with his passengers, including six children.

State police say that both vehicles were significantly damaged and towed from the scene.
