Bar Fight Leads to 2-Year Prison Sentence

A bar fight has led to a two-year prison sentence for a Spring Valley man.

Edwin Cocchay, 31, of 2 Ohio Ave., Spring Valley, was also sentenced by Rockland County Court Judge William K. Nelson to two years post-release supervision. Cocchay pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. 

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said that Oct. 6, 2012, at the El Rincon Bar on South Main Street in Spring Valley, Cocchay struck the victim in the face with a beer bottle. The victim received 20 stitches to his left cheek and three stitches to his left ear as a result of the attack.
