HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A coastal flood advisory is in place until 3 p.m. for southern Westchester, and temperatures are about to drop below freezing for an extended period of time across the entire Hudson Valley.

Minor flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline, including riverfront communities along the Hudson River, the National Weather Service said. Expect 1 to locally 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding.

Then everything wet is going to freeze, because Arctic air is coming in behind the storm.

"As we had into overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, our newest guest will have made itself known as the coldest airmass of the season begins to take up residence across the region, the crunchy, frozen tundra that was once your soggy yard will begin to settle in," said Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather. "Be alert for areas of refreeze on roadways, walkways, and driveways overnight and into tomorrow AM. ... We will likely see quite the increase in poor road conditions as pot holes tend to increase rapidly during periods of colder air that follow these wet and thaw periods."

There are some chances for snow coming up Sunday, Tuesday and Friday, but the National Weather Service doesn't expect much accumulation.

"Should a large dip develop in the jet stream, then a major winter storm will climb the Atlantic coast from Tuesday to Tuesday night," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bob Smerbeck
