Early Morning Flood Warning Extended For Rockland: Update

The NWS warns flooding is possible in Monsey, Nanuet, Suffern, Nyack, Tappan, Pearl River, Sloatsburg, Orangeburg and Spring Valley.

UPDATE — The flood warning for Rockland County has been extended till 10:45 a.m.


ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — With numerous roads closed due to flooding in Rockland County and portions of northeast New Jersey, the National Weather Service has a flood warning in effect until 7:45 a.m.

Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas, the NWS said.

The Flood Warning is extended for the Ramapo River affecting Orange, Bergen, Passaic and Rockland counties.

As of 5:21 a.m., between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. No more rain is expected, but flooding will continue, the NWS said.

Some locations that will experience flooding include: Hackensack, Bergenfield, Monsey, Rutherford, Nanuet, Ridgefield, Suffern, Nyack, Tappan, Sloatsburg, Fort Lee, Englewood, Pearl River, Oradell, Norwood, Orangeburg, Teterboro, Teaneck, Spring Valley and Lodi.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

A wind advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.

Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are possible in Rockland.

Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. With saturated grounds, 50 mph wind gusts may easily down some trees. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, the NWS said.
