Fatal Early Morning Pedestrian Accident On I-87 Being Investigated By State Police
A 24-year-old told police he was on I-87 north, when he hit an "unknown object" which later disabled his car on the Palisades Parkway.

CLARKSTOWN, NY — A pedestrian was hit on I-87 under mysterious circumstances early this morning, according to state police.
New York State Police say that on Friday, around 1:10 a.m., troopers from SP Haverstraw responded to the Palisades Interstate Parkway south, in the town of Clarkstown, after receiving a report of a disabled vehicle near Exit 6.
Once troopers arrived at the scene, they found a 2007 Honda Civic with heavy damage to the front passenger side bumper, hood, and windshield.

While interviewing the driver, identified as 24-year-old Jossue L. Rodas Pena, of Sparkhill, it was determined that while driving on I-87 north, his vehicle struck an unknown object, NYSP said. He told police that he then continued onto the Palisades Parkway south, where his vehicle became disabled.
During the investigation, the body of a dead man was found on I-87 north, beneath a guiderail on the right shoulder of the roadway. State police say that the man's identity will not be released until his next of kin is notified.

Spring Valley EMS responded to the scene, but were unable to provide any life-saving treatment.
Rodas Pena was taken to Nyack Hospital for evaluation, and later taken to SP Haverstraw for further questioning.
At this time, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, according to state police.
The Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
