Mass. Driver ID'd As Victim Of Fatal Weekend Crash On Palisades

New York State Police are still investigating the single-car accident that happened just before midnight on Saturday.

RAMAPO, NY — Investigators still aren't sure why a car exited the parkway this weekend before crashing and killing the driver.

On Saturday, at approximately 11:05 p.m., state police from the Haverstraw barracks responded to a single-vehicle accident on the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound, in the town of Ramapo.

Investigators say a 2006 Saab was traveling south in the village of Pomona when, for reasons yet to be determined, the car left the roadway. The car struck trees and overturned, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

The driver, 36-year-old Angel Mangual, from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation, according to troopers. The New York State Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the State Police Haverstraw at 845-344-5300 and reference RMS number NY2400799642.
