Arthur Douglas Jobson, a former Rockland County Highway Superintendent and Stony Point town official, died April 10 at age 85.

Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood Jr. offered condolences to the family and friends.

“On behalf of the entire Rockland County Legislature, I offer our deepest sympathies to Supervisor Jobson’s loved ones and friends, including his son and our colleague, County Legislator Douglas J. Jobson,” Chairman Hood said. "Supervisor Jobson was a near-lifelong public servant who was always approachable and who was respected by both residents and other elected officials, no matter their political party affiliation."

A. Douglas Jobson, known as Douglas, already had an 18-year career as a carpenter under his belt when he became a member of the Stony Point Town Board in 1974. He served two terms until deciding to run for the Town of Stony Point Highway Superintendent’s job in 1977. He was repeatedly reelected until being named Rockland County Highway Superintendent in 1996. He continued in the county position until 2000, when he believed he was retiring from public service.

But Mr. Jobson was called back to serve in 2004 after the then-town supervisor was forced out on corruption charges. Mr. Jobson was later credited by The Journal News with restoring the faith of residents in both the town budget and the town board that were running under his leadership as the new town supervisor.

“Doug Jobson was always a gentleman who not only appreciated public service, but who was also involved in organizations active in the North Rockland community,” Rockland County Legislator Michael Grant said. “He was extremely giving to the community – of his time, his expertise and his commitment to making things better.”

In addition to his son, Douglas J. Jobson, his survivors include his son, Jason Jobson, and his beloved wife of 58 years, June Wood Jobson.

Supervisor Jobson, a U.S. Army veteran, was born and raised in Stony Point and was a graduate of Haverstraw High School. He was also active in numerous local organizations, including the Stony Point Lions Club and the Stony Point Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and an honorary member of the Stony Point Fire Department’s Wayne Hose Co. No. 1.
