Police: Drunk Man Smashes Door, Window Trying To Get In Ramapo Home

He was cut by glass, police said.

RAMAPO, NY — Ramapo police were called to Helen Court in Hillcrest at 4:52 a.m. Friday by several people reporting a man yelling and breaking glass.

They found the front door of the home had been kicked in and a side window smashed. They located a man outside fitting the description given by all the callers. The man appeared to be intoxicated and was bleeding, police said.

When they approached him, he began to fight with the officers, police said. Two officers sustained injuries — including a dislocated shoulder — and were evaluated at Good Samaritan Hospital.

The man, 44-year-old Ovidio Aguilar-Oliva, sustained no injuries other than a small laceration he had apparently received earlier while attempting to gain entry to the home, police said.

Police said their investigation suggested that Aguilar-Oliva, who lives in but does not own the home, was too intoxicated to unlock the door so he attempted to enter by force, scaring the other residents of the home as well as numerous neighbors.

Aguilar-Oliva was charged with two felonies: second degree assault and third degree criminal mischief; plus two misdemeanors: obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, police said. He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court. Bail was set at $50,000 and he was transported to Rockland County Jail until a future court appearance, police said.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint in merely an accusation and that a defendant is
presumed innocent until proven guilty, police said.
