'Roads Are Getting Messy But They're Passable': Clarkstown Supervisor

Clarkstown's Mini-Trans bus service is canceled for the day.

CLARKSTOWN, NY — Clarkstown's public works crews were mobilized just after 3 a.m. when the snow began falling.

"We were prepared," town Supervisor George Hoehmann said at 8:20 a.m., surveying the scene five hours later. "We probably have 3-4 inches right now, and roads are getting messy, but they're passable."

The town canceled its mini-trans bus service for the day. People have been staying home, he said, noting that he had just received the first report of a car crash. "I've been out and about, and by and large, the roads are empty," he told Patch.

Whatever the minutia of the forecast, the bottom line is that it's Clarkstown's biggest snowfall in a couple of years.

"i think by the time we're done, more than probably we'll be in the 5-7 inch range," Hoehmann said.

It's heavy, wet snow, but so far there have been no reports of outages, he said.
