Wailers To Perform at Event Honoring Congers Mother

Amy Savoury is being honored with the "Caregiver Award" at the eighth annual "Sounding Off For a Cure" benefit for Voices Against Brain Cancer on June 6.

When Amy Savoury’s son Kenneth “Chip” William was diagnosed with brainstem glioma in December 2005 she spent most of her waking moments seeking treatment that would put her son at ease during his illness.

Though life presented the mother of four with difficulties—her husband, who she had four step daughters with, died suddenly in January 2005, 37 years into their marriage— Savoury pressed on and continues to raise awareness of brain cancer and brain tumors in honor of Kenneth William, who passed away from the disease.

Voices Against Brain Cancer will honor Savoury with the “Caregivers Award” at their eighth annual “Sounding Off for a Cure” fundraiser on June 6 at 6 p.m. at The Hammerstein Ballroom New York City to raise funds for brain cancer research.

The event includes music, celebrity appearances, silent and live auctions, food and drinks from local New York restaurants and more. 1010 WINS Radio’s award winning reporter Juliet Papa is serving as mistress of ceremonies while The Wailers—featuring Ky-Mani Marley, son to Bob Marley who passed away from a brain tumor—and bossa nova singer-songwriter Avi Wisnia—whose brother died of brain cancer—will perform.

Tickets are $150 in advance, click here for more information.
