Man Arrested After Attempting To Rob 2 People In Nassau: Police

At the time of his arrest, Joshua Rodriguez was in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine, police said.

ELMONT, NY — A Bronx man was arrested after attempting to rob someone in the T.J. Maxx parking lot on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, police said.

On Sunday afternoon, Joshua Rodriguez, 36, approached a 46-year-old man and attempted to grab his cellphone and necklace, police said.

The victim called 911 and Rodriguez went to nearby parking lot.

Rodriguez then approached a 62-year-old woman and attempted to grab her car keys, which were attached to a keychain wrapped around her wrist, authorities said.

Police arrived and located Rodriguez, who was running eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. Officers caught up to him and, after he resisted arrest, he was placed into custody without any further incident, police said.

Rodriguez was also found to be in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine, police said.

Rodriguez was charged with two counts of third-degree attempted robbery, two counts of resisting arrest, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct, police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
