Greenport, NY — Back-to-school season brings a mix of excitement and nerves — for students, parents and staff alike. Thankfully, Greenport is home to everyday school heroes who help make the transition smoother and the school year a little brighter.

From teachers and tutors to bus drivers, cafeteria staff, crossing guards and more, these caring individuals bring steady support and positivity to our schools. To recognize their many contributions — big and small — Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to salute the unsung heroes of back-to-school.

Please describe why this individual is a hero at your school.

Linda in the school crossing guard , she took over the job 2 years after our mother retired from being the crossing guard. Linda looks forward to each and every child she crosses she knows their names and is always willing to give the the time to talk and let them know they matter and are important.

What should your community know about this person?

Linda is carrying on a family tradition our mother was crossing guests for 36 years even while she was sick and Linda took care of her and then started with the crossing guard position. There was one year inbetween my mom retiring that Some one else was the crossing guests but the last year of my moms life Linda made her proud and took the position and carried on the crossing guard tradition in our family and she enjoys each and every child she crosses. They are not just another kid crossing they are her neighbors family and friends she crosses.
