Boat Capsizes At New Suffolk Beach: Police

The men had planned to go crabbing; no injuries were reported, police say.

NEW SUFFOLK, NY — A vessel capsized in New Suffolk last week, but no injuries were reported, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place on October 1 at 9:07 a.m. at the New Suffolk Beach. A Greenport man, 48, called police and said he and another man, 28, from Hampton Bays, and a third, 62, of Southold, were aboard a 19-foot Carolina skiff belonging to a Mattituck man, 36, to go crabbing — but the vessel capsized.

The boat's owner was able to swim to his barge and assist the other three out of the water, police said.

All involved reported that the vessel capsized due to its weight, high winds, and water conditions; all refused medical treatment, police said.

The boat was towed in without further incident, police said.
