Fire Breaks Out In Dumpster At Southold IGA On New Year's Day: FD

SOUTHOLD, NY — Firefighters tackled a blaze outside the Southold IGA on New Year's Day, officials said.

According to the Southold Fire Department, the fire broke out at about 4:16 p.m.

Southold Town Police Chief Steve Grattan told Patch that police received a report of the fire in the dumpster; the Southold Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames, he said.

There was some damage to the exterior of the building but no damage inside, he said. Southold Fire Department officials said the fire was contained to outside the building.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the fire; Suffolk County arson responded to the scene, Grattan said.
