Beth Doyle met the community at a recent candidate forum organized by the Greenport Civic Association and the Greenport Business Improvement District. The forum was held in the Greenport school district'd gymnasium.

"I'm so happy to be here," she said. "And I'm so happy that this event is taking place in the school. Part of my vision is to ensure that the school is a hub for the community. A strong school contributes to a strong village."

Although she's spent 22 years in education, Doyle said she didn't begin her career in that arena; she originally worked in banking and finance. But with family and friends working as teachers, Doyle said she saw a new path emerge.

"I didn't like my job," she said. But then, she said, she saw an ad for a New York City Teaching Fellows Program, an alternative certification program for those seeking to make career changes, and her dreams took flight. "It spoke to me," she said. "I applied. It was a competitive program, but I got in. And I loved teaching from Day 1."

Even on her second day at Greenport Schools, Doyle said she felt at home. "I saw my name on the board outside, and I was crying. I'm so happy to be here."

The Greenport Union Free School District Board of Education also welcomed Doyle. A message on the district's website read: "Following an extensive and thorough search, the Greenport UFSD Board of Education is proud to announce that it was proud to announce the selection of Elizabeth Doyle as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools, effective March 5, 2025.

"Doyle has most recently served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability for the South Country CSD for more than four years. Prior to that, Doyle served as the principal of the John M. Marshall Elementary School in the East Hampton UFSD," the BOE said.

She also previously worked at a school in Brooklyn, Doyle said.

Doyle holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business from Hofstra University and a Masters in Elementary Education from Queens College, the BOE said.

In her most recent role, the BOE said, Doyle "has demonstrated leadership, loyalty, and commitment to the South Country community."

The Board of Education said it was "excited to have an excellent field of 33 candidates for the superintendent position. In arriving at the selection of Ms. Doyle, the board gathered feedback from over 300 constituents regarding the ideal qualities and characteristics of the next superintendent through written surveys and in-person stakeholder meetings with the search consultant. The interview process consisted of four rounds over the course of several months."

One of those rounds included more than 30 community members representing organizations and stakeholder groups from across the Greenport community, the BOE said.

"The board is appreciative of the valuable input they received, as that community input played an integral role in the selection process. As a result of this extensive process, it is clear that Ms. Doyle possesses the qualities and characteristics to lead the district forward. The Greenport UFSD Board of Education is thrilled to have Ms. Doyle as the next leader as the district embraces the excitement and challenges that the future holds. Please join us in welcoming our new superintendent."
