Intoxicated Driver Found Off Road In Greenport, Slumped Over Wheel: PD

GREENPORT, NY — An East Marion woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after running off the road and being found slumped over the wheel with the door open in Greenport, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Chateau Butler 43, was arrested at 5:37 a.m. on November 1 on Manhasset Avenue and charged with misdemeanor DWI.

Officers responded to the area of Manhasset Avenue in Greenport after the report of a vehicle off the roadway with the driver's door open, police said.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and observed the operator, Butler, slumped over the steering wheel; Butler's vehicle had run off the roadway on the east side of Manhasset Avenue and collided into shrubbery on the side of the road, police said.

Upon investigation, Butler was found to be intoxicated and was arrested; she was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital by Greenport Fire Department rescue, where she was evaluated, then transported to Southold Town police headquarters for processing, police said.

Butler was processed at headquarters and held pending arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
