Join the 'Discover Southold' Scavenger Hunt

Bring your friends and family and create a team! Download the Goose Chase app and participate at your own pace.

The popular “Discover Southold” Scavenger Hunt has returned for Spring of 2022. Join in the fun on Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, 2022. The scavenger hunt is designed for
people of all ages to explore the neighborhood simultaneous to learning some tidbits about
Southold’s rich history.
During the inaugural event last year, folks were traveling through Southold taking selfies with the bust of Albert Einstein and counting the windows at the Museum’s Thomas Moore house. Groups
were made up by families, breakfast buddies, school-aged friends, and more. The only
requirement to participate in the Scavenger Hunt is a smart phone. Participants download the
Goose Chase app which guides them throughout the hunt using clues. While some of the
targets are outside of the hamlet, most are within walking distance from each other. This a
creative way to get your friends and family outdoors and moving, all while learning about the
history of Southold.
Southold Historical Museum has been especially focused on devising methods to keep people
involved and interested in the community. The museum’s executive director, Deanna WitteWalker states, “Southold Historical Museum has been brainstorming ways to involve a broader
audience, including families. We want everyone to feel welcome and engaged with the
Museum. The “Discover Southold” Scavenger Hunt is an ideal way to encourage this.” There is
no limit on the number of teams who can sign up nor on the number of people on a team.
The hunt will go live on April 30 at 9am and close on May 1 at 5pm. There is a per team
suggested donation of $25 for non-members and $20 for Southold Historical Museum
members. After registration, instructions will be provided to download the app before teams
begin on April 30. Get prepared to hunt for Southold’s treasures!
