Last Chance To See ‘Sailing: Southold Yacht Club’ Summer Exhibit At Southold Historical Museum This Weekend

Historical SYC photographs, newspaper articles, trophies, memorabilia, and sailing paintings from the Southold Historical Museum collection

SOUTHOLD, NY – This is the last weekend to view Southold Historical Museum’s summer exhibit 'Sailing: Southold Yacht Club' which is dedicated to the vibrant history of the Southold Yacht Club.

The exhibit takes visitors through the story of the club, which today provides an educational Junior Sailing Program promoting seamanship, sportsmanship and a lifelong interest in sailing for young people in the community. Exhibition highlights include regatta trophies, a SYC Commodore’s Hat (c.1950), historic photographs including Albert Einstein sailing in the Southold Bay, archival newspaper articles, and a quilt made from Junior Sailing Regatta T-shirts. Also on view are several sailing paintings painted by local artists from the Southold Historical Museum collection.

Lee Cleary, Southold Historical Museum Exhibition Committee Chair, stated: “Sailing has been an important part of life for the North Fork community and visitors have enjoyed the seeing crossovers between the club’s history and the museum. The exhibition is on display in the former home of Thomas Currie-Bell, who was a Charter Member of SYC in 1938.”
