LONG ISLAND, NY — After days of speculation, it appears that any hopes of a winter wonderland on Thursday are set to fizzle, as the snowfall expected is slated to be far less than originally anticipated.

According to James Tomasini, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Upton, Wednesday night's temperatures are expected to drop to the lower teens, with the wind chill making it feel as though it's in the single digits.

On Thursday, he said, there will be isolated, scattered snow showers in the afternoon and evening, with "little to no accumulation," and only about a half inch expected at most.

Temperatures on Thursday are expected to climb to the upper 20s to low 30s, but the wind chill will make it feel as though it's in the upper teens to low 20s, he said. Thursday night should bring temperatures that remain in the upper teens to low 20s, Tomasini said.

Things should begin to warm up on Friday, with highs in the mid-30s; Saturday should see temps in the upper 30s and by Sunday, Long Islanders will see the temperatures reach the lower 40s, Tomasini said.

Next week, precipitation is once again expected Monday night into Tuesday, but as of now, that forecast calls for all rain, Tomasini said.
