Netflix Filming New Series, 'Sirens', On North Fork
Filming will take place at the Southold Town recreation center and annex, and also at a private location, officials say.

NORTH FORK, NY – It's lights, camera, action again as Netflix is back on the North Fork, filming a new series, "Siren," set to star Kevin Bacon and Julianne Moore.
Recently, the Southold Town board passed a resolution authorizing Supervisor Al Krupski to "execute agreements with Netflix, Inc., for the use of the recreation center and conditional use of the Southold Town Annex building subject to the approval of the town attorney."
Krupski told Patch that Netflix representatives approached the town and asked to use the recreation center on Peconic Lane for three working weeks, including the current week and two in August. The rec center building, he said, will be used for staging, equipment, costumes, and feeding the crew.

Netflix, he said, also asked for a contingency, to use the Southold Town annex's exterior in the event of a rain date.
The town board, Krupski said, "had a lengthy internal meeting. We wanted to make sure it would be safe, that the public would still be served, and that people can still come to work."

While the filming is ongoing, Krupski said rec center activities will move to the former Peconic School building right next door.
The town will be paid $50,000 by Netflix for the use of the properties to film, Krupski said; he added that filming will also commence on a private property on Oregon Road.
According to a release by Netflix, Sirens is a "female-driven limited series from Emmy-nominated Maid writer/showunner Molly Smith Metzler, and executive produced by LuckyChap Entertainment."
Netflix said the plot centers on Devon, who "thinks her sister Simone has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell. Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention. When Devon tracks her sister down to say WTF, she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be. Told over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells’ lavish beach estate, Sirens is an incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class."
Executive producers include Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie for LuckyChap Entertainment, the release said.
Netflix added that "Sirens" is the first series out of Metzler’s creative partnership with Netflix and is based on her play Elemeno Pea, which she wrote at The Juilliard School.
"Smith and LuckyChap’s previous series at Netflix, Maid, starring Margaret Qualley, spent 14 weeks in the Global Top 10 TV and reached the Top 10 TV in 93 countries; the Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice-nominated series won the Writers Guild Award for Limited Series Writing/Adapted Long Form and an AFI Award," Netflix said.
According to Tudum by Netflix, "Sirens" will star Academy Award–winning actor Julianne Moore; Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Kevin Bacon, and Glenn Howerton, with a recurring cast including Josh Segarra.
Krupski said he believes welcoming Netflix to town is a win-win. "I think it's good for us to have this experience of letting someone use town property. Everyone seems to be very professional and capable and we have a lot of confidence in their ability to come and go with ease. We have a nice town, and people want to be here. I'm sure it will be a good experience."
It's not the first time that filming has taken place in the area. In 2018, Netflix filmed the movie "Lost Girls," about the Gilgo Beach serial killings, in Southold. Last year, the Julia Roberts movie for Netflix, "Leave the World Behind," filmed at several locations around Riverhead. In 2019, the HBO series "The Undoing," starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, filmed in East Marion. In 2007, Kidman was also spotted filming at the Greenport train station for the film "Margot at the Wedding." In 2009, Katie Holmes and Josh Duhamel filmed "The Romantics" on the North Fork. And in 2014 , Netflix shot scenes for "Orange is the New Black" around Riverhead.
