GREENPORT, NY — The historic former Fiedler Gallery was glowing with life, laughter and art Friday night: The space on Main Street in Greenport continues its next chapter as the North Fork Art Collective, which just celebrated its first year — and the opening of its first show of 2025, "Celestial Bodies."

"The sky has been wild this past year — dancing auroras, eclipses, powerful full moons, retrogrades, and planets aligning in ways that make us feel the vastness of it all," North Fork Art Collective owner and curator Kara Hoblin wrote on Instagram. "And what better way to celebrate our place in the cosmos than with 'Celestial Bodies', our first show of the season! This is a sister show opening at the same time as Alan Bull’s solo show 'NOCTURNE.'"

She added: "The power of the night sky and the 'blue hour,' as he likes to call it!"

Guests came dressed in "celestial attire," with glitter, stars and crowns.

According to the North Fork Art Collective website, the NFAC "is an ever-changing, community-driven, creative entity for working artists to collaborate and grow together. We aim to encourage artists of all mediums, ages, skill/career levels to foster positive growth through the arts in our community. We hope to utilize our creative gifts to bring forth new collaborative projects and ideas into reality."

The Collective now has a new gallery space in the historic Fiedler Gallery building at 207 Main Street in downtown Greenport, and is open Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. by appointment all other days.

"Check out our instagram @nofoartcollective for the most up-to-date information," Hoblin said.

Hoblin said the idea for the Collective "was brewing for many years prior to its first physical space."

During her first “Chalk Art of Letting Go” installation at Port of Egypt, she mentioned the idea to the audience of 300 to see if there was a mutual desire for an art space in Greenport, she said.

In August of 2017 the Collective took shape and "popped-up" in an unused storefront in downtown Greenport.

"A small group of local emerging artists, in efforts to bring together the creative community of the North Fork of Long Island and beyond, jumped headfirst into this endeavor," Hoblin said.

Next, in 2018 and 2019, the Collective occupied a different storefront in downtown Greenport, with both emerging and established artists, and continued to grow a community of artists and patrons, Hoblin said.

"The incredible connections and opportunities the Collective provided its artists have helped to propel careers, provided new representation, inspired new ideas and created new unique experiences for our individual members," Hoblin said. "The Collective continues to have an online presence and now has a new location in the heart of Greenport."
