SOUTHOLD, NY —Mother Nature cooperated in a big way for the 3rd Annual Winterfest in Southold Town Saturday — she blanketed the North Fork in a gentle snowfall, creating a veritable winter wonderland for the festivities.

Hosted by the Southold Economic Development Committee, Winterfest celebrates the community of Southold and promotes its many local businesses and organizations.

Crowds flocked downtown to enjoy food samples including chili and clams, popcorn and ice cream, as well as hot cider and cocoa sipped by warm fire pits, all the while gazing at a sea of fanciful ice sculptures and listening to bands play. Local businesses, community groups and civic organizations came together to create the magical experience — as children frolicked in the snow and built snowmen in a scene straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

“In 2022 we developed a winter event to support our local businesses and provide something fun and exciting for both visitors and Southold Town residents. In 2023, we fine-tuned the operations template for this event," said Jack Malley, chairperson of the EDC, before the event — predicting the third Winterfest would be bigger and better than ever — a vision, which, judging by the crowds, became a reality.

The event was free to all residents and visitors.
