Woman Airlifted After Crash With Dump Truck: Police

The woman suffered "extensive injuries" to her leg, police say.

PECONIC, NY — A woman was airlifted after a crash with a dump truck in Peconic Thursday, police said.

According to Southold town police, the crash took place at 11:20 a.m. on County Road 48 and Peconic Lane. A red 2017 Ford dump truck, being operated by a Southold town highway department worker, was heading north on Peconic Lane and through a steady green light when the driver of a gray 2017 Ford sedan ran through a steady red light at the intersection while heading east on County Route 48, police said.

No charges were filed in the crash, a police report said.

The driver of the sedan suffered an extensive injury to her left leg and was transported to SUNY Stony Brook hospital via a Suffolk County police department helicopter — and the Southold town highway department worker was transported to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital for examination, police said.

The crash damaged both vehicles, police said.
