NORTHPORT, NY — Kiki and Coco, 1-year-old bonded brothers born around March 2024, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

Coco and Kiki came from a "dire situation," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

"Their owner was hospitalized and never came back," Wild said. "Luckily, some kind neighbors would feed them and reached out to NCRA for help."

The two brothers were "so scared and confused" when they arrived at the rescue, Wild said. They did not know where their father was.

"Coco seemed to be grieving," Wild said. "Kiki was nervous but kept a strong front and focused on leaning into his brother Coco to comfort him. Neither were aggressive nor hissing…proof that they had been loved. They were just quiet."

The cats' owner purchased them off Craigslist, Wild said.

"Who knows what they went through before being adopted…we don’t know about their history, but we know that they have not known stability and these boys crave it," she said. "They needed to decompress. They needed to feel love and kindness."

The brothers went to an "amazing foster home," Wild said.

"At first, we were slightly worried," she said. "Suddenly after just a few days of kindness and comfort, we saw their true personalities. They are silly, affectionate, loving, vocal and extremely snuggly. We have had several potential adopters for other cats come in for meet and greets, and Kiki will follow them around as if he is saying, 'pick us.' Yet they have not received even one application."

It is "very clear' how much Kiki and Coco love each other, Wild said. They can live with other cats, too.

"They are amazing," Wild said. "Their personalities are formed. What you see is what you get…two affectionate sweethearts."

They are at Petco Commack.

"They have been there a while," Wild said. "Maybe they seem ordinary, or shy to visitors….but they are anything but…they are extraordinary. Would you or someone you know be interested in these amazing boys? You will fall madly in love with them…we promise."

Kiki and Coco are neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.

If you are interested in meeting Kiki and Coco, you may head to the Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet them or any of the rescue's other wonderful kittens and cats.
