After Budget Fails, Elwood School District To Discuss Future Plans
The budget required a 60 percent majority to pass because the district was looking to pierce its tax levy.

ELWOOD, NY — The Elwood School District's 2025-26 budget was not approved by voters on Tuesday, prompting the district to "discuss plans for the future," it stated.
The budget did not pass, as it had 982 yes votes to 830 no votes, but it required a 60 percent majority to pass since the district looked to pierce the tax levy. The yes votes accounted for 54.19 percent of the total votes cast. The district was one of three on Long Island seeking to pierce the cap.
"The district thanks the community for their participation in the May 20 school budget vote," the Elwood School District stated. "Unfortunately, as the budget did not receive support from a supermajority of voters, the district will now begin to discuss plans for the future. It is expected that those conversations will take place over the coming days and we will be sure to communicate any updates to our residents."
