Elwood School Budget Preview For 2025-26: Proposed Budget Seeks To Pierce Tax Levy
The school district's proposed tax levy is above its allowable limit, and the budget will need a 60 percent supermajority from voters.
ELWOOD, NY — Elwood residents are set to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 20.
Voters can head to the polls from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Elwood Middle School Cafeteria.
The proposed budget for 2025-26 is $79,395,286, up 3.43 percent from the current year's $76,760,609.

The proposed tax levy is $55,374,759 — a 4.20 percent increase. The levy is above the allowable limit of 1.29 percent and requires a supermajority approval from the voters of 60 percent. This figure comes after "many months of discussion regarding the budget deficit," the district wrote.
Elwood voters will also decide on one vacant board of education seat.

Vashmir Pascal-Turner and Deborah Weiss are the two candidates vying for the open seat. The seat will carry a three-year term.
