'Kitten-Like' Molly: Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Molly, an 11-year-old female, lost her family in a tragic turn. "We hope someone will give this sweet girl the chance she deserves."

NORTHPORT, NY — Molly, an 11-year-old female cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Cat of the Week.
She is "beautiful and sweet," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.
"When Molly’s mom went into a nursing home, her mom's son was going to her home a couple of times a week to feed Molly," Wild said. "He was in the process of bringing his mom back home when she took a turn for the worst. Her son was prepared to take Molly in, but then the unimaginable happened. Her son passed away from a heart attack."

A neighbor noticed that the woman's son had not been by in almost two weeks, according to Wild. She made phone calls to learn that he had died. The woman's only relatives live across the country. The neighbor received permission to use her spare key to check on Molly.
"When she came into the home, she found Molly dehydrated and very thin, as she lost almost half her body weight," Wild said. "All the empty food cans that were being recycled were everywhere, licked clean by poor molly, looking for even a morsel of food. After that, Molly’s fate was uncertain."

The neighbor went everyday to feed her and spend some time with her, but Molly basically lived in her home for a few months by herself, while her neighbors tried to find her a home, Wild said.
"Finally, she contacted NCRA, and we went there and met a sweet and gentle little soul," Wild said. "She was craving attention and allowed us to pick her up and take her into our rescue."
In foster care, Molly was happy to be pet and loved, Wild said.
"She was found to have a little thyroid issue. We know that could turn some potential adopters off, but if she takes just a half a pill two times a day, she will be totally fine. She loves to eat, and if you put the pill in her wet food, she gobbles it all up like a champ. OK, and the cost? 100 pills for only $25. That is less than a few Starbucks coffees a week! Molly was adopted as a baby and was clearly very loved. She was raised with other cats through the years, as well as a dog. She is calm, sweet and kitten-like at times, despite her age. She has a lifetime ahead of her, and we hope someone will give this sweet girl the chance she deserves."

Molly is currently at Doggie Don’s in East Northport, just waiting for her forever home.
Molly is spayed, has all her shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting Molly, you may head to the Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet her or any of the rescue's other wonderful kittens and cats.
