NORTHPORT, NY — Lucy, 1 year old, and her son, Jesse, around 5 months old, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

Lucy was born around November of 2023. Her son, Jesse, and his sister, Belinda, were born on July 28, 2024, in a woman's backyard, said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

"That means sweet Lucy was only around 8 months old when she had her babies and was protecting and taking care of them even though she, too, was still just a kitten," Wild said.

Belinda has since been adopted, and that’s when the rescue realized that Jesse is very bonded to his mom, Wild said.

"They are so sweet together, and we can’t imagine separating them," Wild said.

Lucy is calm and gentle, and timid in new situations, according to Wild.

Jesse is silly, playful, affectionate, and snuggly. He is brave and adorable and loves to cuddle with his people, as well as his mom, Wild said.

"Lucy is such a beautiful soul and loves being pet," Wild said. "She is only a little over a year, but if you adopt her with Jesse, you get the best of both worlds; a kitten with that fun playful energy and a young adult cat that needs a chance for a forever home."

Lucy and Jesse were fostered with other cats, dogs, and children, too.

If you would like to visit Jesse and Lucy, they are currently at Petco Huntington.

"We hope someone will consider adopting this darling mommy and son so they can always be together," Wild said.

They are neutered or spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
