Northport HS Student Wins Suffolk Gold Golf Championship

The junior shot a 5-over-par 77 to earn the win and is set to represent Suffolk County at the New York State championship this June.

NORTHPORT, NY — Padruig Douglas, a junior at Northport High School, won the Suffolk individual gold golf championship, the school district announced in a news release.

Douglas shot a 5-over-par 77 to earn the win, and he is slated to represent Suffolk County at the New York State championship this June.

"Padruig’s win was a great accomplishment," said his coach and NHS math teacher Brian Sundberg, via news release. "I am proud of his determination and impressed by his hard work. He was an absolute pleasure to coach, and I look forward to him being with me another year."

As an all-league, all-conference and all-county golfer, Douglas will continue to work on his skills and have the opportunity to be an all-state player.

"After getting to play some practice rounds with Padruig last week, I was impressed on how good of a golfer he was and impressed by his ability to get out of trouble on the golf course," Sundberg said.
